I didn’t know this while I was pregnant, or going through the stressful first few months of having a newborn, but my little girl was going to change my life and career for the better.
It’s hard to even contemplate having a career, or a strong one at that, when you’re changing diapers or nursing the baby back to sleep. But believe me, it gets so much better, if you give it time.
The biggest change in my mindset took place when I began taking my daughter with me everywhere. I take her with me while meeting my colleagues at coffee shops. And to lunch and drinks with my friends. I took her along to try out handpieces at a dental practice, and also when I went out paddle boarding in Sausalito. Last Friday, I had the privilege of taking her with me to the Health Fair organized by the Special Olympics. While I was inspecting athletes, checking their teeth, making mouthguards or applying fluoride varnish, Aashi was running around, waving hi to everyone and periodically hugging my leg saying ‘mama’. It was the sweetest experience for myself, her, and all of my colleagues who got to play with a little baby while volunteering.
It just never occurred to me to leave her home. Why shouldn’t she be a part of my life at all times? I find that my life has become more full if I let her into more aspects of it.
Like all parents, I’ve found that my daughter enriches my life, teaching me new ways to see the world. She has also helped me see things from a long term point of view. Keeping her in mind has helped me set the stage for a dental practice with family values- Aashvi Smiles Dental Group.
Yes, I am finally starting my practice! We found an adorable location in San Carlos, CA at the beginning of the year and have only just signed the lease. I am excited to bring a practice that sees patients of all ages to a convenient location in the beautiful Peninsula.
After having my daughter, it only made sense to name the practice after her. She is my greatest inspiration, after all. She also happens to have the most beautiful smile.
